Ordering Your Prescription

To order your Repeat Prescriptions you can:

1. Drop the counterfoil into the prescription box located in the surgery foyer
2. Order online, via the NHS APP, you can also submit your request via Klinik. Or register for online services. Please note you will need to bring a form of identification into the surgery to be able to complete your registration. Identification includes a birth certificate, driving licence or passport. Please note that identification for online services is mandatory, but you will not be refused to register as a patient if you cannot provide ID.

Please note we cannot take prescription requests over the phone.

Prescription Requests

You should always allow 3 working days from the time of ordering your prescription to it being ready to collect.

Only a very small number of medicines are truly essential to have in urgent supply and the doctors have agreed to this important list. These include asthma medication, epipens, GTN sprays, insulin, warfarin, prednisolone, epilepsy medications and Parkinson’s medications. Other medications are still important, but can safely be omitted for a few days if you have accidentally left it too late.

When you are requesting an urgent prescription you will be asked the name of the medication, what the medication is for and your reason for the emergency order.

Please understand that we must prioritise urgent processing for problems where somebody’s health may suffer without their medication; so please order your regular medications in good time. You may be able to obtain some medications over the counter from a pharmacy until your prescription is ready.

Change to 28 day prescribing

Please read the following statement by NHS Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group:

NHS Kernow recommends a maximum prescription duration of 28 days for chronic and longer-term items. We do not differentiate between people on grounds of age in this advice.

28 day prescribing has been promoted across England and Wales, largely to reduce waste from unused medication. The Department of Health takes the view that prescribing intervals should be guided by, and in line with, the medically appropriate needs of the patient taking into consideration patient convenience, the dangers of excess drugs in the home, and the need to safeguard NHS resources by reducing waste.

Whilst some patients may wish to have a longer prescribing interval as their medication is currently stable, it is important to note that current stability is no guarantee of future stability, and there is an increased risk of wasted medication when prescribing intervals are extended and the health needs of patients changes. Once medicines are prescribed and supplied, they cannot be re-used.

NHS Kernow encourages and supports practices to use electronic repeat dispensing (eRD) to help reduce the repeat prescribing workload for appropriate patients.

Drug Therapies

Certain drug therapies require regular monitoring – blood tests etc.  Most are initiated by the hospitals who will have explained the monitoring requirements to you. However, much of the actual monitoring will be carried out by your surgery. It is therefore absolutely necessary that you respond and come in for your tests when called. Failure to do so could compromise your health.

Medication Reviews

In order to maintain patient safety. The practice will need to conduct regular medication reviews. This may be by contact by telephone and or attending the surgery for consultation and tests. Your engagement with this process is in order to keep you safe.
